What is a GIS?

A Geographic Information System (GIS) integrates hardware, software, and data for capturing, managing, analyzing, and displaying all forms of geographically referenced information. Glendale City’s GIS is designed to ultimately help answer questions, solve problems, and make better decisions in order to best serve the citizens of Glendale.

The City of Glendale utilizes a state-of-the-art GIS to visualize, query, and analyze geographic data to interpret relationships, patterns, and trends. The City employs GIS-trained professionals to create, maintain, and administer an Enterprise GIS which deploys GIS applications, services, and data for use by city employees, departments, and by the general public.

The City has made its GIS more accessible by using cloud-based technology. The resulting online interactive maps and applications provide an effective and efficient way to visualize information in order to understand entity-relationships, trends, and patterns to assist decision-making.


Data Sharing

The City of Glendale, Arizona currently distributes GIS data as a service publicly. It is our commitment to improving transparency and accountability to the public. Making Open Data available, discoverable, and usable promotes efficiency and effectiveness in government and it also has the potential to create economic opportunity and improve citizens' quality of life.
